About

GUNA is a national membership association for nurses working in the field of genito-urinary medicine.

Full membership costs from just £10 per year and is open to any registered nurse working in GU medicine, with associate membership available for unregistered support staff or other related healthcare professionals, or registered nurses working in related specialities, with an interest in sexual health.

GUNA held it’s inaugural meeting in November 1991 for nurses working in Wales and the South West, and following funding from the Department of Health in 1995, became a national association, giving an independent voice to sexual health nurses.

GUNA is governed by an agreed Constitution.

GUNA hosts two Clinical Meetings per year, usually held in March and October, and incorporating our Annual General Meeting and yearly Business Meeting. These Clinical Meetings aim to provide appropriate and on-going professional development specific to the needs of sexual health nurses continuing professional development, and certificates of attendance are issued to help members meet their PREPP requirements.

In addition, GUNA has a regular e-newsletter (GUNA Chronicle) which incorporates an extensive news and current affairs section, as well as information on courses, other conferences or study days and vacancy information of GU specific nursing posts.

Merchandise is available carrying the GUNA logo and personalised with your clinic name or details.

Upon joining, each member is issued a unique membership number, which in the future will allow members to access pass word protected ‘members only’ areas of this website.

GUNA produces Guidelines for Good Practice, available for downloading from this website which helps guide the development of GU nursing practice at a local level.
