GUNA is a national membership association for nurses and other professionals working in the field of genito-urinary medicine and sexual health. For the Aims & Objectives of the association, click here Full membership costs just £15 per year and is open to any registered nurse working in GU medicine, with associate membership available for unregistered support staff or other related healthcare professionals, or registered nurses working in related specialities, with an interest in sexual health. GUNA held it’s inaugural meeting in November 1991 for nurses working in Wales and the South West, and following funding from the Department of Health in 1995, became a national association and joined the Joint Committee of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting Associations (England) representing the specialist interests of GU nurses at a national level, contributing towards national strategy and policy development. GUNA is governed by an agreed Constitution GUNA hosts two Clinical Meetings per year, held in March and October, and incorporating our Annual General Meeting and yearly Business Meeting. These Clinical Meetings aim to provide appropriate and on-going professional development specific to the needs of GU nurses continuing professional development, and certificates of attendance are issued to help members meet their PREPP requirements, and the gateway assessments within the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) Following each Clinical Meeting, a full colour journal issue of the Association’s newsletter, GUNA News is produced and mailed to members. This includes an extensive news and current affairs section, referenced papers of the presentations given at the most recent Clinical Meeting, and peer reviewed articles from members, as well as information on courses, other conferences or study days and vacancy information of GU specific nursing posts. For members with an active email account, they may also sign up for our weekly electronic news letter – GUNA Chronicle – which features a review of the previous weeks sexual health related news stories and media features, the latest medical and research findings related to sexual health, listings of coming study days, events and conferences, as well as the top pick of career opportunities and vacancies from around the UK Upon joining, each member is issued a membership card & unique membership number, which in allows members to access pass word protected ‘members only’ areas of this website. Membership of GUNA provides free access to the regional British Association of Sexual Health & HIV (BASHH) meetings, upon production of GUNA membership card (registration fee needs to be paid to secure place, but will be refunded upon presentation of membership card at registration). GUNA produces practice guidelines and sample protocols, as well band specific KSF profiles for nurse in GU medicine, available for downloading from this website which helps guide the development of GU nursing practice at a local level. GUNA is governed by a national Committee, which meets a minimum of four times per year.
